Stickers Check For Fruit Ripeness

July 27, 2006

Everything else is becoming more modern so why not fruits? A professor at the University of Arizona has created a special sticker which will take the headache out of fruit shopping.

These small stickers will have the ability to tell you whether or not that peach your hungrily eyeing is ripe or not. It is also good for choosing fruits that aren’t ripe yet so you can save them until later when they are ripe. That way you don’t have fruits that spoil almost as soon as you bring them home.

The sticker works by testing the ethylene gases released by fruits. It doesn’t start working immediately however. Once a farmer puts it on the fruit it takes between one and two days to get the results in the form of color strips on the sticker.

This technology unfortunately won’t be at a grocery store near you for at least another 2 years.

Record Companies Win Against File Sharing Kazaa

July 27, 2006

The music industry won a suit against file sharing giant Kazaa in excess of $100 million dollars. Kazaa also agreed to go legitimate to seal the deal.

However as most know Kazaa is no longer what it once was so this is not a big deal for most that read this. They have been in the middle of a crossfire for a long time now. On one side stood the music industry who were furious over copy-right infringement and on the other side were the very users that made the program a hit in the past.

Users have been mad for the last few years and most stopped using it because Kazaa went the way of many other programs in that it made millions by allowing spyware and adware companies to bundle their software onto your computer when Kazaa was installed. This led to many problems including having to restart your pc just to get rid of most of it.

The most laughable aspect came when someone created Kazaa Lite. The full power of Kazaa like it used to be, spyware free. Kazaa left statements saying that this was illegal copyright infringement. Can anyone say ironic considering that by that time they were already in court with record companies.

YouTube Legal Troubles

July 24, 2006

Only a few minutes on Youtube can bring up searches with results from movies, tv shows, personal video clips, music videos and more. It is surprising however that Youtube seems to be getting a lot of legal flack not from record or movie companies but from a journalist.

Robert Tur is a journalist and a helicopter pilot who says a video he made was posted multiple times without his permission and he is dragging them to court. Legal experts and other online viral video sharing websites are keeping a close watch on the results. Will YouTube win or could this shut them down for a while or for good?

Hotdog Shaper

July 16, 2006

In very strange gadget news is this hotdog shaper. I don’t think I would applaud how cute these dogs are as much as I would be backing away from them but it is a great product for kids to shape their foods.

The octodog is available for $15.95 at BaronBob
