At the end of the 19th century Patek Philippe created the first wristwatch and it soon might go the way of the pocket watch. With millions of americans carrying a variety of portable devices many are simply looking to them to find out the time.
This is especially true of the cell phone users. One is more likely to pull their cell out of their pocket to find out what time it is than buy a watch. I personally haven’t owned a watch in five or six years because they break so easily.
Sales of US watches have slumped since 2001 and fell another 4.9 percent in 2005. Back at the creation of wristwatches men were the last to use them but in this century they seem to be the first to discard them. Of the 69 million who bought watches last year 40.3 million were women.
