Phone Jamming

September 15, 2006

That’d be something to make me perk up. A phone jammer. For those conversations on the cell phone that can’t be brought to another room or place for X reason, but that you still wouldn’t want anyone to spy on, I mean, accidentally hear. By creating a wall of sound around the person (it looks like one would need to record their voice in advance here), this nice little device from Hammer Schlammer will prevent other people from making out what you’re saying. As the website itself points it out: “This telephone system ensures the privacy of a conversation in open office areas or any location where privacy during phone calls is required by projecting rearranged phonemes from your speech into a dissonant jumble of partial words and syllables.” The price is a little less enticing–$399.95–but who knows when such things can turn out to be useful. It only takes up as much space as a standard tape dispenser, anyway.
