Apple is now going after Podcasts. Mainly Podcast Ready and mypodder. Apple says that they are infringing on their trademark. Many have become aware that Apple is going after most people that use the word pod.
I can’t say they are right or wrong for protecting their trademark, but my thing is, this has been out for a while now. Why didn’t they go after them when podcasts were first created. Podcasts are now used by everyone from tv shows to preachers, to regular radio stations and everyday people and bloggers. It has become a big thing and only now they choose to go after it? I don’t get it. It could be the fact that they don’t want to destroy podcasts, they want to own them.
Prompted by a post by Jason Calacanis, the web site “You Don’t Own Podcasting” was started. I feel exactly the same way as you. The term “podcast” was around for at least two years, before they started this.
