Cricket EZ: Phone Review

June 2, 2008

I was in desperate need of a cell phone when I first started driving (in case of emergency). My fiance also needed a phone too, when his stopped working with no warning. Because we’re trying to save money to get our own place, when we heard about the $40 Cricket EZ, we jumped at the offer.

Upon receiving the phone, I noticed that it was nice and small. However, when I started looking through the phone, I realized that it had none of the features that the other phones I’ve owned had. No voice memo, no games, no access to the internet, no speakerphone, and no vibrate option. To be honest, it was horrible.

I’ve had numerous problems with this phone. On occasion, when I answer the phone, all of a sudden it becomes extremely loud (as though it’s on speakerphone) despite there being no speakerphone option. It nearly blew my eardrum a few times. Also, my text messages sometimes take hours to send.

Another thing that bugs me is that there are contacts in the phone that cannot be deleted. They are all Cricket contacts, but it still aggravates me (I might be a little obsessive, but who cares?)

On an important note, this phone was recalled due to audio problems during 911 phone calls.

All in all, I’d say that the phone is perfect for people like me who only need text messaging and the regular phone plan (also good for kids). However, it nowhere near compares to the Motorola SLVR L7 that I owned before this one (my sister dropped it in the toilet, thanks Ash!).

If I were to rate this phone on a 1-10 scale (10 being wonderful), I’d have to give it a sleazy #4. Sorry, Cricket. Stick to selling phones, not making them.
