The ruling was issued Wednesday in Pennsylvania district court, and it states that Google’s Street View mapping service is not an invasion of privacy. The judge also denied a request for an injunction to stop Google from publishing Street View images.
The suit was filed last year by Christine and Aaron Boring, who became offended when a camera-toting car drove past their house and took pictures.
Google maintains that there isn’t really a such thing as complete privacy, and points out that photos of the house and the floor plan of it are already publicly available on the Allegheny County property assessor’s office website. Also, they say that they offer people the option to have images of their house and property removed from the Street View service.
It’s kind of ironic for people who claim to want total privacy, to draw such attention to themselves with such a public lawsuit.
