I recently bought the simplest model in the range of Apple Macbooks. Working for a degree in Music Tech, I had been having a lot of compatibility problems between my PC, which uses the insufferable Windows Vista, and the studios in which I must work, equipped with top of the range Apple desktop computers. Having always been cynical about Macs, and Apple as a company on the whole (I must be the only person to know that iPods have irreversably ruined the music industry, any comments either way on this point would of course be welcome), I was loath to purchase any Apple product, but was surprised when i bought my Macbook.
The 13” Apple Macbook White is an excellent model, strong and resilient on the outside, equipped with excellent, reliable software which is easy to get the hang of. It may be the cheapest model in the range of Apple laptops, but I am yet to find any areas in my studies in which it is lacking in comparison to the full desktop versions. And, in terms of music software, it is excellent, and somehow so much easier to use than any of the equivalent programs I have used on Windows. I’d advise people who are wondering what to buy, if they are looking for a media-friendly laptop, to get one, as it is cheap but very good. So, being forced to defect from Windows due to the company’s self-sabotage (i.e. Vista), it now seems as if I am in a moral quandry…
