Windows 7 is scheduled for release on October 22, 2009 and is one of the most avidly awaited releases of an operating system ever, due to the potential it has to make up for some of the perceived flaws found in Microsoft’s earlier offering, Windows Vista. However, there have been a number of controversies surrounding its release, and in this HyperGadget post I will do a quick rundown of these so you can be better informed when making a purchase. Firstly, the concept of a separate Europe edition must be explored. Originally, Microsoft had planned to release a Windows 7 ‘E’ edition in Europe to avoid falling foul of European Union antitrust regulations. This ‘E’ edition would come packaged without Internet Explorer and a number of models were considered to decide how internet browsers would be installed on the computer (whether it was by a random drawing or through the computer user’s choice). This was scrapped when Microsoft decided that the confusion surrounding the release of the ‘E’ edition would be too much for consumers. Secondly, will the initial Windows 7 edition be 100% safe? I doubt it. Those in the computer industry always say never to buy Windows when it first comes out… so, I might not!
