Portable External HD

portable hard drive is a type of digital storage device. It is generally convenient to transport and has a large storage capacity. It is compatible with most computers and generally can operate easily with Windows or Mac. It can be use for storing large amount of data’s, files or it can be use as a secondary storage for your installed applications.

This time I had that already with a capacity of 500Gb enough for me, I am a freelance computer operator and addicted in downloading a lot of interesting and useful applications especially in Multimedia and Graphic softwares, beside that I can save all my downloaded movies and mp3′s on this device.  I remember the time that I am using a USB Flash Drive which a capacity of 512Mb up to 2Gb that is not enough for saving a movies or higher amount of capacity of software. When I was in college I also remember the time, my classmates and I looking for a used desktop hard drive or laptop hard drive, and we bought an enclosure. We made a portable hard drive but it needs to plug in a electric socket to have a power before you can use it. As of now the portable hard drive does not required that.

Most portable hard drives are plug and play. This means that they do not need to be formatted and a person does not have to load special software onto her computer before they will work. Instead, it is generally only necessary to connect the device, and it should be ready for use. Connection is normally achieved with a cord that has a USB plug. The cord that connects a portable hard drive to a computer is usually detachable from the device.

You also need to consider the interface, which is used to transfer data to and from the device. Less expensive portable hard drives may use slower communications interfaces, making the transfer of a computer’s entire data inventory a long, tedious process. Some older computers and portable drives have only USB 1.0, while new ones come with the much faster USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Firewire or eSATA options. Buffalo Technology recently announced the MiniStation Cobalt USB 3.0 portable hard drive, which can transfer data at up to 5 gigabits per second. That’s smokin’ fast. The size of this device is almost 2.5″ x 3″ and very slim

As of now that the biggest capacity of portable hard drive I know is almost 1Tb up to 2Tb.. Wow hope I can have 1 someday.

I can’t say good bye to the USB Flash Drive, for me it is very useful too, I can store a small amount of data’s, file etc. and it is easy and very convenient to bring also the portable hard drive is the same
