ISPs trying to get the most out of their cable networks are going to be quite excited by the latest developments in the field which promise download speeds of 4.5 Gbps, quite a big improvement over the current max speeds achievable with DOCSIS, the technology used by cable providers to add internet services to their infrastructure.
Arris, a company that specializes in networking equipment for cable providers, has announced that it will be showing off its latest hardware capable of this impressive speed, albeit with a few caveats.

“ARRIS today announced that it will demonstrate two DOCSIS ‘firsts’ at NCTA 2011, in Chicago,” the company said.

“The demonstration will show real file transfer throughput of 4.5 Gbps of DOCSIS downstream traffic being transmitted over 128 DOCSIS downstream channels into a single Fiber Node,” it announced.

The company can achieve this speed by using up more channels than the current DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) implementations do. This means that there are fewer analog TV channels left, but providers will probably find it a worthwhile trade-off.

“In the demo, an ARRIS C4 CMTS will be configured using four newly-released 32 Downstream Cable Access Modules (32D CAMs) to source the 128 DOCSIS downstream channels into the Fiber Node,” it explained.

“The demo will also show a proof-of-concept implementation of a 5-200 MHz high-split DOCSIS upstream system with 575 Mbps of DOCSIS upstream bandwidth being transmitted over 24 DOCSIS Upstream channels out of a single Fiber Node,” it added.

As users get more and more used to viewing online video, in HD, playing games or getting their movies in minutes rather than hours, ISPs struggle to keep up.

Bandwidth gets increasingly expensive as it nears the users, the biggest investments these companies make in infrastructure are for the so-called “last mile,” the portion that gets the data to the actual user.

Especially in areas where subscribers are spread out geographically, ISPs are always looking for ways to maximize the use of their existing infrastructure, be it telephone lines or TV cable, rather than upgrading it to fast but expensive fiber-to-home connections for example.

EA had pulled Crysis 2 From Steam. News broke that Crysis 2 had to be pulled from Steam, supposedly by EA, in order to turn it into an Origin Store exclusive. Today, EA are claiming that far from them yanking the game, it was ‘Valve who kicked the game off their service’, for violating Steam’s “business terms”. Crysis 2 is still available online from a number of digital distribution outlets.

It’s unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis II from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA,” reads the official statement from the company. “Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service – many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis II from Steam.”

The statement goes on to point out that Crysis 2 is still available online from a number of digital distribution outlets, which would certainly add weight to the theory that it’s simply been booted out by Valve – if EA wanted to make it an Origin exclusive they wouldn’t have stopped at the Steam store.

AMD has come clean with its latest class of hybrid CPU / GPU chips, officially dubbed the Fusion A-Series. Unlike the low-power flavor of Fusion accelerated processing units already on the market, these 32-nanometer APUs were designed with desktops and mainstream laptops in mind, taking direct aim at Intel’s Core 2011 processors with the promise of superior processing and discrete-level graphics, and 10-plus hours of battery life.

Besides performance and battery life claims the company is making (much more on that in a moment), what this means is that as far as laptops go, AMD is completely stepping away from the standalone-CPU-plus-GPU paradigm. But, the company will still make dedicated Radeon cards, which can be coupled with an APU for a 75 percent boost in graphics performance — a setup AMD is calling “Dual Graphics.” All told, these chips measure just 228 square millimeters. To put this in context, check out the gallery of hands-on shots below, featuring the A-series next to a standalone CPU, discrete graphics card, and, for the sake of scale, the kind of low-power Fusion chip introduced back at CES.

PCs are ready to be shipped, and AMD says we can expect to see at least 150 of them this year. That sounds promising indeed, but we’ve still got lots of technical details to rehash. Head on past the break for the full spill on what these APUs pledge to do, along with a video of AMD senior product marketing manager Raymond Dumbeck showing off some A-series laptops in action.

A-Series includes seven laptop APUs across three families, and offers up to 4MB of cache, and clock speeds as high as 1.9GHz in the dual-core A4 chips — up to 2.5 GHz if you take into account AMD’s Turbo Core technology. These chips are also stereoscopic 3D-capable, and support USB 3.0, DirectX 11, OpenCL / OpenGL, AMD Wireless Display, and both 1600MHz DDR3 and low-power 1333MHz DDR3L memory.

AMD isn’t shying away from direct comparisons with Intel’s Sandy Bridge CPUs. The APUs promise more than ten and a half hours of resting battery life with the help of power gating, and AMD makes the pointed claim that its quad-core A8-3510MX APU can last more than three and a half hours longer than a dual-core Core i5-2410M processor. And the explicit one-upmanship doesn’t end there. AMD also says that its dual-core A4 chips will compete with Core i3 CPUs, with the quad-core A6 going after i3 and i5, and the quad-core A8 taking on i5 and i7. Systems with the A4, A6, and A8 chips are expected to start around $499, $599, and $699, respectively.

Graphics-wise, the A-Series has up to 400 shader cores, depending on the model, and ushers in two additions to AMD’s Vision Engine: AMD Perfect Picture HD, which cleans up 1080p video post-processing, and AMD Steady Video, which compensates for camera shake in movies. As you can imagine, we’re impatiently waiting to get our first A-Series laptop in to review so that we can test all these claims, but until then, get your fill of details with the chart, PR.

EA has Planned to pull Crysis 2 From Steam, Now Exclusive to Origin and BF3 to follow? Forging way ahead with their plans to ingratiate themselves with the new level of emergent digital distribution Steam has monopolised for years now, EA’s newly-rebadged Origin Store has struck its first telling blow. The game in question: Crysis 2. EA have since confirmed that it can now only be purchased online exclusively at Origin, and in the case of Australian gamers, doing so will set us back a whopping $79. It’s sad, that software prices are inflated.

Internet buyers can still pick the game up for a little less at places likeDirect2Drive, but as Snootle mentioned in his news alert, this is very likely to change very soon give how aggressively EA are approaching the establishment of their online portal. By the time their hottest property – that being Battlefield 3, you know, the game we all want quite badly – rolls around for its October 25th release, don’t expect to be able to pick it up online anywhere but Origin for a premium. The red carpet of future commerce has been unfurled to meet its arrival, and we don’t get to walk on it. We just get to pay for it.

A portable hard drive is a type of digital storage device. It is generally convenient to transport and has a large storage capacity. It is compatible with most computers and generally can operate easily with Windows or Mac. It can be use for storing large amount of data’s, files or it can be use as a secondary storage for your installed applications.

This time I had that already with a capacity of 500Gb enough for me, I am a freelance computer operator and addicted in downloading a lot of interesting and useful applications especially in Multimedia and Graphic softwares, beside that I can save all my downloaded movies and mp3′s on this device. I remember the time that I am using a USB Flash Drive which a capacity of 512Mb up to 2Gb that is not enough for saving a movies or higher amount of capacity of software. When I was in college I also remember the time, my classmates and I looking for a used desktop hard drive or laptop hard drive, and we bought an enclosure. We made a portable hard drive but it needs to plug in a electric socket to have a power before you can use it. As of now the portable hard drive does not required that.

Most portable hard drives are plug and play. This means that they do not need to be formatted and a person does not have to load special software onto her computer before they will work. Instead, it is generally only necessary to connect the device, and it should be ready for use. Connection is normally achieved with a cord that has a USB plug. The cord that connects a portable hard drive to a computer is usually detachable from the device.

You also need to consider the interface, which is used to transfer data to and from the device. Less expensive portable hard drives may use slower communications interfaces, making the transfer of a computer’s entire data inventory a long, tedious process. Some older computers and portable drives have only USB 1.0, while new ones come with the much faster USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Firewire or eSATA options. Buffalo Technology recently announced the MiniStation Cobalt USB 3.0 portable hard drive, which can transfer data at up to 5 gigabits per second. That’s smokin’ fast. The size of this device is almost 2.5″ x 3″ and very slim

As of now that the biggest capacity of portable hard drive I know is almost 1Tb up to 2Tb.. Wow hope I can have 1 someday.

I can’t say good bye to the USB Flash Drive, for me it is very useful too, I can store a small amount of data’s, file etc. and it is easy and very convenient to bring also the portable hard drive is the same

People who are new to the online world are somehow forced into believing something, which is not at all good for their mental and financial health. There is a notion spread across the internet promoting that running an online business takes nothing, a little setup, some investment (in many cases, no investment at all!) and a little tidying up here and there. And that’s all they have to do for the customers to walk in and the money to pour in.
The reality is entirely different – you never get what you actually aimed for when dealing with these online business opportunity sites. You will be amazed to know that proving your age to be above 18 by giving away your credit card is actually a trick to capture your credit card information and stealing money from it without your permission. Sometimes you may even find yourself forced into a continuity program after you bought a product at a good bargain.

The very first step of yours should be making a backup copy of all those important files, documents and other desirable data, which you fear may loose during the process of reformatting. In addition to it, you require a copy of your installation software, which is usually provided with the computer at the time of purchase. These copies include your current operating system and all those software for the programs used by you.

One more thing you need to do is to make a boot CD using control panel on your computer. This CD is helpful in helpful in booting the computer.
Now, you are all set to follow the steps to reformat your operating system. Ensure to follow the complete instructions by installing the system to the hard drive (usually drive C).

In order to gain complete protection against identity theft, make sure that all the papers are properly shredded before being thrown into the trash. Also ensure that your credit card does not go out of your sight in restaurants or departmental stores. If you are unsure of the authenticity of a place then prefer paying by cash instead of using your credit card. The same thing applies even for online shopping. Do not purchase online if you are not sure about the authenticity of that site.

By following some simple tips you can reduce the risk of identity theft considerably.
In fact you must make a habit of reviewing credit reports from time to time. This helps to know in case any fraud or theft has occurred. These reports clearly state the opening of any new accounts or the applying of any new loans. This allows you to clear the matter with appropriate authorities before it gets too late. You can even approach a lawyer to handle such identity theft cases.

Frequent internet users are at a greater risk of becoming a victim of identity theft and especially if their computer is not completely protected against viruses, spyware, adware, malware, Trojans, etc. These malicious programs allow the wrong-doers to easily get hold of all the sensitive information present on the computer.
